Also when applying for an ID number for such a trust, you need to say it's an estate.

RE: Extension for trust electing to be treated as estate

Laura,

I couldn't find anything official. But I would use the 2758 form. I figure that everything is supposed to be treated as if the trust is part of an estate.

Also, since this is a fiscal year, it would be strange to request extension for a trust on form 8736 and show a year end other than December.

bill

Extension for trust electing to be treated as estate

Decedent died 7/7/04. we will elect under Sec. 645 to treat trust as an estate, and file a first and final 1041 for the FYE 6/30/05.

Does the extension for this entity get filed on Form 2758 for an estate, or Form 8736 for a trust?

Thank you.
