Decedent's trust leaves residue to charity, her private foundation. In the course of administration the trust has income (interest and capital gains) and makes preliminary distributions in excess of income to the  foundation. Is this deducted as a charitable contribution on schedule A of the 1041 or as an income distribution on schedule B.

Thanks for your input.

A trust or estate does not get a distribution deduction for income or principal transferred to charity - no K-1 ever! The distribution is reported on Schedule A.

With an administrative trust you may be able to deduct amounts *set aside* for charity, since this trust often elects to be treated as an estate.
